Doorway pages are parts of a website created with no other reason than to try and generate search traffic to funnel elsewhere. Doorway pages typically provide no real value in and of themselves. It’s recommended by Google that you avoid building doorway pages on your website, especially at scale. This will likely be viewed as spam. This in turn could lead to parts of your site disappearing from search results, or perhaps your entire
Here’s an example of doorway pages
The client offers plumbing services in Greater Manchester. They have a great page that explains what they do at:
- domain.com/manchester-plumber-services
They think it would be rather neat to target various areas within that metro area, to helpfully capture from search traffic and clients. To do that they set about by creating tens and tens of pages across their site:
- domain.com/wigan-plumber-services
- domain.com/bury-plumber-services
- domain.com/bolton-plumber-services
- domain.com/rochdale-plumber-services
- domain.com/oldham-plumber-services
and so forth. They do so for every town and area that they can think of in the region. Each of these area targeted pages though offers little more than the same content as their main service pages. Maybe they re-hash it just a little bit with some unique content about the area in question. For the most part though, these pages are of low quality, offering nothin unique to the end user. It’s more than likely they’d funnel to the main service page, too.
