As I mentioned in this post it’s been a fairly hectic year when it comes to Google search updates. The second half of the year in particular has seen update after update. With so many it can be hard to connect a decrease in search traffic, with a specific update.
One of our favorite SEO experts, Dr Marie Haynes, shared this great info this week on Twitter – outlining the various timings of SEO updates this year:
- August 25th – Helpful Content Update begins
- September 12th – September Core Update begins
- September 20th – Product Review Update begins
- October 17th – no known update but turbulence seen
- October 19th – October Spam Update begins
Marie also shares some additional nuance on her tweet that’s worth reading. At any rate, if you’re seeing a sudden and dramatic change in your search traffic, it’s worth seeing if there’s a correlation between the variance and the release date.
